Ghosts
September 21, 2010
The Oakland Airport is home to the Oakland Aviation Museum, formerly known by the much more fun acronym, WAM (Western Air Museum). It is primarily a collection of old airplanes, mostly military, stored in and around an old hanger. Unlike a lot of aviation museums, the aircraft, for the most part, have not been restored to shiny newness looking like when they were in service. Most were just towed in and parked, showing signs of having been worked hard and put out to pasture with little or no thanks.
These are fading remnants of the glory days... ghosts inhabiting the aircraft, leaving a tangible closeness to the people that flew them and systems that maintained them.
